Expert Advice
Using Spyder3 on Small Screens
Notebook computers are getting smaller and smaller. Although they're currently not extremely powerful, these so called "netbooks" have become quite popular recently. And although you probably won't find yourself doing any heavy digital imaging work on yours, you still might want to calibrate its screen.
While the small size of netbooks obviously offers an advantage in matters of mobility, their limited screen size can be a bit of a problem; at a typical resolution of 800 x 600 pixels, some things might get cut off. In the case of the Spyder3 application window, this will probably be the "next" button. The solution to this problem is a very simple one: Just hit "Enter" on your keyboard, instead of using the mouse to click on the button. It's that easy.

Download a Free Tool for Artificial Vignetting
Datacolor has developed a free Photoshop (requires CS3 or later) action which allows you to add artificial vignetting to your images. This effect is normally unintended and undesired, but can sometimes be introduced purposely for a great creative effect: the image's colors will desaturate, a nice grain occurs and dark edges draw the attention to the center of the frame. The free download and instructions on how to use it are available here.

Sally Gall is known as a sensual interpreter of nature who combines impressive printing skills with a rigorous but romantic vision. Her work both describes and interprets the visible world more as we might experience it than as it is.
