Datacolor ColorFacts Professional

Datacolor ColorFacts Professional Screenshots

Viewing some screen shots will give you a good idea of how ColorFacts works.  Since the program is highly graphical, all of the color science mathematics and principles are hidden behind easy-to-read Instruments and you should get a good feel for the program just by looking at the screen shots.

First Time Use

Click to view the Tip of the Day Click to view the Color Reference Click to view the White Point Selection Click to view the Instrument Selection Click to view how to connect to the meter

The 'Tip of the Day' will help you learn additional features of the program the more often you use it. You may choose a color system standard to analyze against (like NTSC, HDTV or PAL/SECAM)
The last thing to configure is the standard to use for the white point (i.e. D50, D65, 9300K) Choose the hardware you want to connect to, or let ColorFacts detect the hardware automatically. Connect to the meter.

Measuring

Click to view Measurement menu Click to view Brightness Uniformity Wizard Click to view Contrast Wizard Click to view Gray Scale Wizard Click to view Test Colors
Analyzing display device performance is made easier with smart Wizards that guide you through the process. The Brightness uniformity wizard measures the variance between the center and corner of the display The results from running the Contrast Wizard.
Running the Gray Scale Wizard will display how far off the coloration is (and how to fix it), the luminance output along the gray scale (AKA "gamma") and more. For continuously monitoring changes, a "Test Colors" Instrument is included for quickly creating a test pattern to measure.

Instruments

Click to view Instrument Menu Click to view Target Instrument Click to view Luminance Histogram Click to view RGB Levels Click to view Temperature Histogram
The Instruments Menu shows all of the instruments you can choose from. You have complete control over the screen layout, which can be saved and restored later. The "Target" Instrument helps with adjusting coloration.  Use controls on your display device to move the white dot to the cross hairs.

This screen shot was taken from a front projector that contained too much Blue (and also a bit too much Green) .

Viewing the luminance output across the gray scale will allow you to see your device's "gamma" output, which is a function of how luminance changes as the input changes.

The actual "gamma" correction factor of your device will be calculated automatically (2.21 in the screen shot above).

The "RGB Levels" real-time Instrument displays exactly what adjustments to make to reach the target chromacity (usually D65).

In this picture, the device needs to have 14% more Blue, 1% less Green, and about 3% less Red.

The "Temperature Histogram" reveals how your display device tracks from black to white, as a color temperature reading.

In this picture, the device tracks very well from about 10% gray up to 100% white.

Results

Click to view Raw Data Instrument Click to view Save to file Menu Click to view Instrument's Zoom Feature Click to view Instrument's Context Menu Click to view Main Screen
The Raw Data Instrument shows the actual readings in a number of different color space coordinate systems Results can be saved in graphics formats ready for publishing on the web (a feature that we can thank for many of the screen shots on this page!) Several instruments can be zoomed for a closer look.

This screen shot also shows the menu choices for saving the results as a graphic or printing the resuts.

You will also be able to save the raw data from the instruments to import into a database or spreadsheet.

All instruments have a context-sensitive menu that allows you to save, print or reset the Instrument and every instrument has comprehensive Help available from the context menu.
When the Instruments all read at their targets (indicated as a dotted line, cross hair or colored spot), your display device is perfectly adjusted. This shot shows that adjustments still need to be made.
